About the Edit black filled icon
A pencil drawn on a diagonal, with visible shaft facets, a wood-cut tip and a rounded eraser end, cuts across the upper-right corner of a square outline that opens to let it through. It is the universally understood edit affordance: modify, rewrite, update or amend. Use it in toolbars, table row actions, profile settings, CMS content lists, form fields and drawing apps.
The break in the square makes the pencil feel placed on the page rather than pasted over it, which keeps the silhouette clean at small sizes. It aligns with delete, duplicate and save icons in the same action set and stays legible down to 16 px in either style.
This is the solid black filled version of the edit icon: a bold silhouette that reads clearly at 16-24 px and on dark or busy backgrounds, and prints well in one colour.
