About the Edit black filled icon
A long pencil, complete with a sharpened tip, a banded ferrule at the back and a barrel drawn as two parallel lines, lies at 45 degrees across the top-right corner of a rounded square, and the frame breaks open where the pencil passes through it. The gap makes the editing action feel live rather than decorative, so it works for edit buttons, note apps, profile and settings screens, CMS toolbars and inline rename controls.
The pencil runs corner to corner on the diagonal, leaving the frame's lower-left half intact as a balanced counterweight, and both use the same stroke weight. It pairs naturally with trash, save, copy and share icons in an action bar. At 20 px and below use the filled variant so the pencil tip does not disappear.
This is the solid black filled version of the edit icon: a bold silhouette that reads clearly at 16-24 px and on dark or busy backgrounds, and prints well in one colour.
