An open square frame is broken at its top-right corner, where a long sharpened pencil lies diagonally across the gap with its tip pointing into the page and a rounded eraser end outside. It is the universal cue for edit, write and update, fitting profile settings, CMS record rows, note-taking apps, form fields and admin dashboard action menus.
The break in the frame is what sells the idea: the pencil looks like it is working on the page rather than resting beside it. The 45-degree angle matches other tool icons such as ruler and brush. At 16 px keep only the pencil and corner gap visible.
