About the Edit black outline icon
A long pencil with a clear eraser ferrule at the top and a sharpened, chiseled tip crosses diagonally into a square outline whose upper-right corner is left open so the pencil can enter it. The break in the frame reads as an active edit rather than a static note. Use it for edit and rename buttons, compose actions in mail apps, form field controls, note-taking tools and CMS toolbars.
The pencil runs corner to corner at 45 degrees, and the deliberate gaps in the square's top and right edges keep the two shapes from colliding. It pairs with trash, save and duplicate icons in an action row. At 16 px, thicken the stroke so the pencil tip facets do not disappear.
This is the black outline version of the edit icon: even, monoline strokes that stay crisp at small sizes and suit clean, minimal interfaces, wireframes and light backgrounds.
