About the Gear black filled icon
A round cog carries eight evenly spaced squared-off teeth around its rim and a large empty circle at the hub, leaving the center open. It is the universal mark for settings, preferences, configuration and machinery. Drop it into app settings menus and toolbars, admin and account preference panels, engineering or manufacturing site sections, process and automation diagrams, and product spec sheets.
The teeth are blocky and equal in width with clean gaps between them, and the inner circle is generous, which keeps the form readable when scaled down. It pairs with wrench, sliders, tools and power icons across the same set. At 16 px the tooth gaps can close up, so use a heavier grid or the filled style instead.
